South Korea court rules for Apple in Samsung patent dispute
A judge for South Korea's Seoul Central District Court on Thursday dismissed an attempt by Samsung to bans sales of certain Apple products in the country. Samsung claimed that Apple had infringed three patents with products such as the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and iPad2, seeking 100 million won (USD $95,100) in damages. The judge rejected those claims, finding that the Apple products did not infringe any Samsung patents. Samsung plans to review the ruling before deciding whether to appeal.
Apple and Samsung been involved in a continuous patent litigation battle that spans four continents. The two companies have been engaged in patent litigation since 2010, each filing lawsuits against the other over the design and functionality of their devices. Last month a US jury awarded Apple $290.45 million following a re-trial on damages. A jury for the same court originally awarded Apple a $1.05 billion judgment against Samsung in 2012. However, Judge Lucy Koh reduced the damages awarded by $450 million in March of this year because she found that the jury calculated damages for certain infringing Samsung products based on improper legal grounds.
