Simple Being: explore life, literally, to experiment with it

"Three weeks not to escape, but to find reality."

What would you do if you suddenly could not speak, hear or see? Clive has already made up his mind. He is going to subtract his hearing, speech and sight one at a time; a week of abstinence from each of them. He is determined to discover the small detail he is missing, the secret key that can open up his senses and connect him to the world.

Simple Being lives halfway between reality and fiction, and Italian writer and director Marco Ferrari invites us not to watch the journey, but to take part in it.

The SB Films production, starring Sol Mason, Jasmin Radibratovic, Jeff Adler, has already won the Castell Award in Barcelona Film Festival and the Excellence Award in Film Festival in Amsterdam.

This international co-production was made wholly and exclusively with private funds coming from Italy, Brazil, and the USA. The cast is composed of American and Australian actors. The production team includes an Italian producer, a Venezuelan, an American, and a Brazilian lawyer.

Simple Being is co-produced by attorney Maurício Vedovato, coordinator of the Entertainment, Media and Sport Law of the law firm Lilla, Huck, Otranto, Camargo Advogados. In an exclusive interview with Migalhas, he recounts his involvement with the project:

"The main reason I got involved in the project was the challenge of enabling, as a lawyer and producer, a type of audiovisual work involving multiple international interests and in which there would be no dependence on public resources. This independence was of course for better or for worse, but actually demonstrated the existence of other forms of financing, production and distribution of audiovisual content on an international scale, in addition to the traditional incentive mechanisms and co-production treaties."

The usual mode of production of audiovisual works intended for the international market - such as project preparation, attracting donors, selecting professionals, negotiations - blends up with financial institutions, insurance companies and distributors - with specific production methods for new media and platforms, "especially aiming at interactivity with the viewer, in sync with the themes treated in the movie," Maurício says.

The Brazilian premiere lands at 17h, at Cine Brasília, on Saturday 30/8, as part of the Competitive Exhibition of Brasilia International Film Festival – BIFF. The movie here was named "Em busca do sentido da vida" (in search of meaning of life). After the screening, there will be a discussion with director Marco Ferrari.
