Britain: Gay Marriage Law Is Approved by Parliament

Gay marriage is to become legal in England and Wales after the lower house of Parliament approved the final changes on Tuesday to a law that had the backing of Prime Minister David Cameron. Both Labour and the Liberal Democrats supported it, but it split Mr. Cameron’s Conservative Party, with many of his own lawmakers criticizing him as too liberal. After a two-hour debate, the House of Commons passed the bill, meaning it now needs to be approved only by Queen Elizabeth, a formality.
