Brazilian tourism sector hits record levels


Brazilian tourism sector reported all-time high domestic and international air passenger traffic as well as foreign tourist spending in the country in the 11 months to November 2005.


Brazilian domestic air passenger traffic totalled 39.2 million from January to November 2005. A total 36.6 million passengers were handled on domestic flights in 2004.


The country's international air passenger traffic increased by 11.1 pct year-on-year to 6.175 million in the 11 month period. It stood at 6.138 million passengers in 2004.


Foreign tourists spent a total of $3.5 bln (2.992 bln euro) in Brazil from January to November 2005. Foreign tourist spending stood at $3.222 bln (2.755 bln euro) in 2004.


Some 5.6 million tourists are expected to visit Brazil in 2005.
