Considering the excellent judicial, institutional and academic exchange which was being promoted by São Paulo Justice Court and APAMAGIS - Associação Paulista de Magistrados with the Judiciary in Turkey, namely the Court of Jurisdictional Disputes, we declare profound solidarity with the several Judges and Justices of the Republic of Turkey who are currently arrested, apparently in contravention to the due process of law.
The purpose of the role of the Judiciary consists of ensuring a consistent, reliable, speedy and efficient justice. Therefore, we firmly believe that, independent from party affiliation or political opinions, the defense of democracy and individual rights and guarantees are fundamental for the existence of a just society. A strong and independent Judiciary is the cornerstone of any democracy of the world. An attack on the Judiciary is an attack on the constitutional protections that have been built through a democratic process of deliberation over the course of centuries, intended the protection of the citizenry.
