China's National People's Congress on Sunday added supervisorycommissions and announced that it will reform China's criminal code, bothmeasures aimed at furthering in the government's anti-graft campaign.
During the first session of the 13th NationalPeople's Congress, the NPC amended Article Three of the constitution, therebyestablishing supervisory commissions which will extend committee oversight toall government employees.
The NPC explained the amendments' importance,saying that "Reform of the supervisory system aims to pool anti-corruptionresources, enhance the Party's centralized, unified leadership over thecampaign against corruption and form a centralized, unified, authoritative andefficient supervisory network"
The amendment was passed on Sunday along withseveral other amendments, including one concerning Article 79, which eliminatedpresidential term-limits, paving the way for President Xi Jinping to remain inpower.
The NPC expects to enact legislation to reformthe criminal code by the end of this annual congressional session.
