Firestone Brazil to build new plant
Bridgestone Corporation has announced its Brazilian subsidiary, Bridgestone Firestone do Brasil Industria e Comercio Ltda will build a new tire plant. The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bridgestone Americas Holding, Inc., will build the plant in the Camacari Industrial Pole in the Brazilian state of Bahia.
Bridgestone Firestone do Brasil's new plant will produce tires for passenger cars and light trucks. It will complement the company's Santo AndrEPlant, which makes tires for passenger cars, trucks, buses, agricultural machinery, and earthmoving equipment.
The new plant will have an initial production capacity of about 8,000 tires a day. It will utilize state-of-the-art production technologies and is expected to create more than 500 new manufacturing jobs and 1,200 indirect jobs in the region.
Construction will begin in 2005, and plans call for the plant to begin production in the second half of 2006. The company will invest about $160 million for the plant construction project.
